Frequently Asked Questions
About Structured Water

What is structured water?
Structured water has molecules organized into stable hexagonal clusters, the same form found in healthy living cells, in pristine springs, and in melted glacial ice. This is the fourth-phase or EZ water described by Dr. Gerald Pollack at the University of Washington. Rius Water passes purified water through our proprietary Crystal Charging Chamber to create this structured state.
What is coherent water?
Coherent water is another name for structured water. When water molecules move randomly and independently, the water is described as incoherent or unstructured. When they organize into a liquid crystalline, hexagonal arrangement, the water is described as coherent. Rius Water creates this coherent, structured state by passing reverse osmosis purified water through our Crystal Charging Chamber.
Is structured water the same as EZ water, hexagonal water, and fourth phase water?
Yes. These terms all describe the same family of organized water. EZ or exclusion zone water is Dr. Gerald Pollack's term for the structured layer that forms near hydrophilic surfaces. Hexagonal water describes the six-sided geometry of the molecular clusters. Fourth phase water describes a state of water beyond solid, liquid, and vapor. Coherent water and living water are other common names. Rius Water is structured water in all of these senses, verified through hexagonal crystal photography by the Office of Masaru Emoto.
What are the benefits of structured water?
Structured water is pristine water. It is water that carries the essence of water itself: lifeforce, the bringer of life. It is water the body recognizes as good and integrates, supporting the overall functioning of every aspect of mind, body, and spirit.
What is hado?
Hado is a Japanese word for energy or lifeforce.
Is structured water the same as alkaline water?
No. They are two completely different types of water, although Rius Water is naturally alkaline. Alkaline water simply refers to a higher pH, while structured water is about the molecular arrangement and lifeforce of the water itself. Rius Water happens to be naturally alkaline as a result of our charging chambers.
What is the pH of Rius Water?
Rius Water typically holds a pH range from 9.5 to 9.8. We do not use any additives. Our pH is raised naturally through our charging chambers after filtration.
How is Rius Water different from regular bottled water?
Most bottled water is only filtered or purified. Rius Water is reverse osmosis purified, then passed through our Crystal Charging Chamber to structure the molecules, raise pH naturally, remineralize with beneficial elements, and amplify the water's energetic properties. We bottle exclusively in glass because plastic disrupts the structured state.
Has Rius Water been independently tested?
Yes. In March 2024 the Office of Masaru Emoto in Tokyo, Japan accepted our application for water crystal photography and confirmed that Rius Water forms beautiful, well-defined hexagonal water crystals with high hado, or life-force energy. The Office of Emoto holds the copyright to the crystal imagery.
Is structured water real, and is it backed by science?
Structured water sits at the meeting point of science and direct experience. On the research side, scientists like Dr. Gerald Pollack at the University of Washington have documented a fourth phase of water, the EZ or exclusion zone state, that behaves differently from ordinary water. On the validation side, the Office of Masaru Emoto in Tokyo, Japan reviewed Rius Water and photographed beautiful, well-formed hexagonal water crystals, which they identify as a primary indicator of high levels of positive energy, or hado.
Beyond the lab, the people who notice it most are energy workers, healers, and anyone with refined sensory skills, along with everyday customers who simply appreciate excellent water. Again and again they recognize a clear difference in how Rius Water feels and relates to the body. Our reviews speak for themselves. We invite you to feel the difference and decide for yourself.
What is a water structuring device?
A water structuring device restores water's natural molecular organization. Common types include vortex carafes that spin water, stir-in wands, contact-free units that sit beside a carafe, magnetic or frequency-based units, and inline crystal chambers. The Rius Crystal Charging Chamber is an inline crystal chamber that installs after any reverse osmosis or under-sink filter and structures every drop on demand, with no electricity and no maintenance.
How is Rius different from other structured water devices like vortex or magnetic units?
Structured water devices generally fall into a few categories: vortex carafes and wands that spin the water, contact-free units placed near a carafe, magnetic or frequency-based units, and inline crystal chambers like ours that structure water continuously as it flows through your existing filtration line. Each approach aims at the same goal, returning water to its coherent, hexagonal state.
There are many differences between our finished structured water and that of others. We wish all of our peers well and want the whole industry to grow so more people have access to better water, so we will not offer our observations about those who compete with us. Instead, we recommend you sample water from each organization that draws your interest and choose the water that connects with you.
Is structured water safe to drink, and are there side effects?
Yes. Rius Water is an excellent water to drink, both as a refreshment and in larger quantities.
What does structured water taste like?
Customers consistently describe Rius Water as smoother, softer, and silkier, with a clean, refreshing finish. The real difference is in how the water feels in the body. People report feeling replenished and satisfied, able to drink more without feeling heavy.
The Science and Research

Who is Dr. Gerald Pollack, and what is EZ water?
Dr. Gerald Pollack is a professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington whose research describes a fourth phase of water, often called EZ or exclusion zone water. It forms structured, hexagonal layers near surfaces and behaves differently from ordinary liquid water. His work helps explain why structured water matters. Read more in our article on Dr. Gerald Pollack's research.
What did Dr. Masaru Emoto discover about water?
Dr. Masaru Emoto pioneered water crystal photography, freezing water and photographing the crystals it forms. He observed that water treated with positive intention and energy forms beautiful, well-organized hexagonal crystals. The Office of Emoto reviewed Rius Water using this method. Learn more in our piece on Masaru Emoto's water crystal research.
Who is Dr. Konstantin Korotkov?
Dr. Konstantin Korotkov is a researcher known for studying energy fields and the measurable properties of water and living systems. His work is part of the broader scientific conversation around water, energy, and structure. Read our overview of Dr. Korotkov's research.

Crystal Charging Chambers

What is a Crystal Charging Chamber?
The Crystal Charging Chamber is our flagship device, an in-line chamber holding a hand-selected matrix of crystals. Water flowing through it becomes structured, has its pH raised naturally, and is energetically amplified. It uses no electricity and needs no maintenance, transforming any standard reverse osmosis or filtration system into a structured water source. Explore the Crystal Charging Chambers.
Do I need a filter, or can I use the chamber alone?
We always recommend filtering your water before using a charging chamber. The charging chamber begins its work at the molecular level, and to do that well you want to start with pure, clean H2O.
How does the Charging Chamber connect to my filtration system?
It installs on the post-filter side of any reverse osmosis or under-sink system using a standard 1/4 inch quick-connect line, the same fitting used by virtually all residential filtration systems. Installation usually takes under 30 minutes. See our step-by-step installation guide.
Will the Charging Chamber work with my refrigerator, well water, or whole-house system?
Yes, though some setups may need modifications, and whole-house systems may call for larger charging chambers. We love working with well water because it comes from the earth with fewer chemicals. Well water still contains minerals, and without a spectral analysis we cannot know exactly what those elements are, so we always filter our clients' well water before running it through a charging chamber. This lets us deliver consistent, universal results no matter the source.
What crystals are in the Charging Chamber, and are they safe in drinking water?
Every crystal chosen for a charging chamber serves a specific purpose and is kept in balance with the other crystals it works with. The chambers are complex in their crystal work, yet the water stays refreshing and its taste stays simple. We strive for that balance. We have worked with each crystal individually and as a collective to recharge the lifeforce of water, and all of them are safe in drinking water. In fact, each was chosen for its ability to enhance and amplify the properties of water.
What is the difference between the Healing, Wellness, Heart Chakra, and Custom chambers?
All four structure and amplify the water identically; the difference is the crystal blend inside. The Wellness and Energy chamber is tuned for daily vitality, the Healing chamber for rest and restoration, the Heart Chakra chamber for emotional balance and heart-centered energy, and the Custom chamber is built with a crystal profile tailored to your intention.
How long does a Charging Chamber last?
The Charging Chamber is designed to last indefinitely under normal residential and commercial use. There are no filters to replace, no electricity required, and no moving parts. Rinse the housing about once a year if you wish.
What is the lead time for a Charging Chamber?
Each chamber is handcrafted to order, with a lead time of approximately four weeks. We take this time to select, cleanse, assemble, and charge each crystal matrix, then it ships free within the contiguous United States.
Bottled Water

Why does Rius Water come in glass bottles?
Plastic can disrupt the molecular structure of water and leach chemicals into it. Glass preserves the hexagonal structure and energetic integrity of the water, and it is endlessly reusable and recyclable. Working with glass is a challenge worth the effort to deliver the quality we stand behind.
What sizes are available?
Rius Structured Water comes in a 32oz glass bottle ($6.69) and a 1 gallon glass jug ($17.58), with multi-packs and case pricing for larger orders. Every option is available as a one-time purchase or through our Subscribe and Save program at 10% off each delivery.
How should I store Rius Water?
Store your Rius Water in its glass container in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Keeping it away from strong electromagnetic sources such as routers and microwaves helps preserve the original hexagonal structure and energetic properties over time.
